Section Three

Other Generational Verses

A set of verses that show God working down the generations. 1. God has created the generations. He will be there right from the first to the last. 2. God tells Moses to go to Pharaoh and speak to him. The reason given for Moses to go to Pharaoh is because God has hardened the hearts of Pharaoh and his officials. Because of this, God will perform signs (which will result in the release of the Israelites from Egypt). The consequence of these signs is that the children and grandchildren of the Israelites who were there at the time would be told of what God had done to free them. 3. Moses speaks to everyone in Israel to give them some laws that they are to follow when they cross the river Jordan. The purpose of this is that their children and their children after them would follow these laws and so fear God. 4. Joel’s prophecy is to be told not only to the people of the time but to their children as well - and then they are to tell their children, and their children are to tell the next generation. 5. As part of Peter’s address to the crowd just after Pentecost, he says that the promise of being able to repent, have forgiveness in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit is for the people there and for their children.
