Losing and Gaining

Matthew, Mark and Luke have equivalent passages about some words of Jesus. In these words, Jesus says that anyone who gives up things for the sake of Jesus will receive many times more back in return (Matthew and Mark use the expression ‘hundred times’). The list of things is: • homes/houses (Matthew/Mark/Luke) • Wives (Luke) • Brothers (Matthew/Mark/Luke) • Sisters (Matthew/Mark) • Father and/or mother (Matthew/Mark/Luke) • Children (Matthew/Mark/Luke) • Fields (Matthew/Mark) Also (almost as an added bonus!) all three gospels records that Jesus said that anyone giving these things up will receive eternal life.
