Jairus’ Daughter

All three of Matthew, Mark and Luke record two healings of Jesus. They are the healing of a synagogue leader’s daughter (the synagogue leader was called Jairus) and the healing of a woman subject to bleeding. In each of the three gospels, the same pattern of events is noted. Synagogue leader pleads with Jesus Jesus heals a woman subject to bleeding Jesus heals Jarius’ daughter The two bookends of the passage concern the healing of Jairus’ daughter. The passages start with the daughter dying and Jairus coming to Jesus to tell him this. Jairus asks Jesus to give his daughter life. Jesus and his disciples start to go with him, and then a woman subject to bleeding touches Jesus’ cloak. She is healed. Jesus goes to Jairus’ house and tells people that his daughter is not dead but asleep. He takes the daughter by the hand and she gets up.
