God at Work in the Womb

Some examples of God at work in the womb: 1. God speaks to Samson’s mother to tell her that she will become pregnant and give birth to Samson. It is said that Samson will be ‘dedicated to God from the womb’ and that Samson ‘will be a Nazarite of God from the womb’. 2. As part of a passage that describes Jeremiah’s calling, he describes how God spoke to him. This word is talks of God knowing (or choosing) Jeremiah before God formed him in the womb and of how Jeremiah was set apart before he was born. 3. Luke describes the circumstances that surrounded the birth of John the Baptist. An angel speaks to Zechariah and tells him that he and Elizabeth will have a son. This son will be a joy and great in the eyes of God. The angel also says that John will be ‘filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born’. 4. Paul describes his history, explaining the change from persecutor to follower. He says that God set him apart when he is in his mother’s womb.

Nazarites

A Nazarite was someone who took a pledge that is described in the Bible in Numbers Chapter 6. Nazarites were regarded as being separate and ritually clean.
