Section Three
Generations in Psalms
Several parts of the Psalms talk of faith having a generational aspect.
1.
The next generation is to be told of:
a.
God’s praiseworthy deeds
b.
God’s power
c.
God’s wonders
When the law was established, it included the instruction to
teach children, who would teach their children. In this way
future generations would come to know God and trust him.
2.
Each generation tells the next of God’s works and might acts.
3.
The psalmist encourages that the prayer be written down for the
benefit of future generations, so that those who are yet to be born
may follow in the psalmist’s footsteps and praise God.
4.
The psalmist writes that those who are God’s servants will see their
children live in God’s presence and so be established before God.
5.
The writer declares how God has taught him since his youth. He
expresses how we wants to continue with God into his old age. As a
part of this, he says he will declare God’s power to the next generation
and he will recount God’s mighty acts to those who are to come.
