Faith in Action
When Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, an army gathered to attack. The
gathered army was large in size and its intent seemed clear - to invade
Judah.
Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolves to talk to God and proclaims a fast for
everyone in Judah.
People gather from all over Judah in response to the call to fast. In
Jerusalem, Jehoshaphat speaks to the assembled crowd. That crowd
included children.
Jehoshaphat declares that the nation has no power to halt the army and so
are utterly reliant on God. A man named Jahaziel stands up and declares
that God will win the battle on their behalf.
Sure enough, when the men of Judah advance the next day they find only
dead bodies. God has caused confusion among the army and they had
killed each other.
So, children were present at a time when the nation relied on God. They had
seen, and been a part of, a demonstration of faith in action.
