And the rest….

Here are some other verses that point to children being considered as a blessing (the expression ‘fruit of the womb’ means to have children) 1. Esau sees Jacob with his children and Jacob says the children are those whom God has graciously given. 2. When Jacob blesses his sons, he blesses Joseph by saying that God will bestow blessing on him. These include ‘blessings of the breast and womb’. 3. God’s promise as part of a covenant he makes with the people includes the increase in numbers and ‘fruit of your womb’. 4. In a list of blessings, the ‘fruit of the womb’ is again listed (twice). 5. In a promise that God will make his people prosperous, there is again the expression ‘fruit of the womb’. 6. As part of God’s judgement, the accusation is levelled that the people have taken away the blessing of God from their children. 7. A woman calls out that Jesus’ mother must be blessed to have such a son as Jesus. Jesus, however, replies that the blessed are people who hear the word of God and obey it.
