Amos

Amos starts with a number of prophecies that show God’s displeasure with a number of nations. In Chapter 2 verses 6 to 16, there is a prophecy against the nation of Israel. The prophecy says that God condemns a number of aspects of the Israelite society. As part of this accusation, God says that he has raised up two sets of people (verse 11): 1. Prophets from amongst the children of the Israelites 2. Nazarites from amongst the youth of the Israelites In verse 12, there is then a condemnation that the Israelites did things to ignore and negate the people that God had raised up. In other words, God had tried to speak to the Israelites using the children and youth but they had ignored the things that God was trying to say.

Nazarites

A Nazarite was someone who took a pledge that is described in the Bible in Numbers Chapter 6. Nazarites were regarded as being separate and ritually clean.
