A look at what the Bible says about

children, childhood and families

Introduction

This site takes a look at what the Bible says about children and associated topics. The information is broken down into pages, where roughly one page contains one story or thought. Each of the pages are organised into sections. A list of what verses or passages are covered is given in the scripture index. Childhood in Biblical times was very different to today. For example, there was no understanding of a transition period between childhood and adulthood.

The concept of childhood

in the Bible

There are two broad ways that children and chilhood is used in the Bible. Firstly, there is the biological sense - an actual child (son or daughter). This is used across the whole spread of age (person A is a child of person B - person A could be a baby or a toddler or an older child or an adult). Secondly, it is used as a metaphor or picture to illustrate something. For example, some people are called ‘children of God’.
